If you’re a carpet owner, you’d know that the chances of spilling something on them are pretty high. In fact, we can almost guarantee that you’ve already had multiple spills on them!  Regardless if it’s tea, wine, cordial, juice or milk, whatever you spill will bring about a cause for distress.

And what about cleaning up some spilt milk from your carpets?

Milk is one of those things that if left to absorb into your carpets can cause a lot of odour issues and discolouration in the future.  Did you know that by not cleaning spilt milk properly from your carpets that a bad smell can develop in just days?

For this very reason it’s crucial that you know what to do when the time comes – because trust us, that time WILL come!

Ok, so what’s first?

The key to avoiding any bad odours or discolouration from happening within your carpets is to act quickly.  As soon as that milk has been spilt it’s time to clean it up.

First of all, you should look to grab something to absorb the milk with – perhaps a towel or microfibre cloth.

Next, you’ll want to grab some warm water and add a tiny bit of dishwashing liquid to it.  Mix the solution and apply a bit of it to a clean tea towel.  You’ll then want to apply this to the carpet.

NOTE– just dab the cloth gently – don’t rub as you’ll make things worse. 

After you’ve dabbed the solution onto the carpet it’s time to grab some water and mix it with a small splash of white vinegar.  Repeat the same dabbing process above, however this time with the white vinegar solution.  After that, feel free to absorb any wet patches with a new microfibre cloth and you should be right to go!

IMPORTANT

What next?

We generally recommend waiting a day or two to see if the stain has come out.  If you can see an outline of the milk or your carpet doesn’t look right then it might be time to call in the professionals.
